School Activities

This Fall and Winter were full of lots of fun school activities.  Here are some pictures of the things we were able to do.

Gwen's class had the kids do research on a famous person in history and then dress up and represent that person in an activity that parents were invited too.
Gwen as Susan B. Anthony, and her friend, Zoe, as Mother Theresa for their class presentation of "Tea at the White House"

Jared's class did a performance of "Mary Poppins".  About a week before the play his teacher sent home an email letting all the parents know when the play was going to be and what items the different children needed to bring in for their parts.  I had not heard anything about a play so I asked Jared about it.  Me: "Jared, your class is doing a play of Mary Poppins?"  Jared: "Yep."  Me: "Tell me about it."  Jared: ...proceeds to tell me exactly how the play goes.  Me: "What part are you playing in the play?"  Jared: "Michael."  I shouldn't have been surprised, but I'm not sure how my son was one of the main parts and had not bothered to even tell me he was doing a play.  He did a great job.  The microphone kept going out and he was the only child that you could hear very clearly for the entire performance.

As another class activity in Jared's class his teacher had the students make islands out of salt dough.  They then had to paint them, name them, and come up with a travel brochure to convince people to travel to their island.  One day all the parents came into the "travel agency" and the kids tried to convince us to travel to their islands.  Jared's island was named after our dog and had great big dogs all over it.  There were about 6 cat islands in the class and one of the parents told me how grateful they were to see Jared's island where cats were deemed as evil.

Bonnie worked very hard in band and passed off the requirements to be able to perform with the advanced band for one of the songs during the band concert.

Nate and Bonnie went to school early two days a week to perform with the school Jazz Band.  Nate played trombone and Bonnie played piano.

The kids and I have continued to take piano lessons and we had our winter recital.  Everyone did great with our songs despite being nervous.
