Christmas!!! (finally)

For Christmas this year we stayed right here at home in Arizona.  We had so much fun as a family.  We opened presents, ate good food, played games, and read books.  It was a wonderful, lazy day at home, except, of course, the hour of church.

This summer I had a great plan that the kids could draw names and make each other patchwork denim/flannel blankets for Christmas this year.  In theory this was a great plan, in practice... not so much.  I totally underestimated the time that it would take to cut out about 800 squares of denim and 800 squares of flannel, as well as the time to sew them all together and then clip all the edges on each square, as well as washing and drying each of them about four times.  In the end the kids designed the blankets and in the two weeks before Christmas I sewed four blankets and Ben clipped the edges on them all with a little help from me, and we did many, many loads of laundry.  They ended up great though and the kids love them.

Bonnie designed Nate's Blanket
Nate designed Bonnie's blanket.  If you look sideways you can see the B in the middle.
Gwen designed Jared's blanket.  The orange is the ocean floor, then the green is the ocean plants, and the blue is the ocean with sharks in it.
And Jared designed Gwen's Blanket.
None of the kids told who they had drawn and then when they saw their blankets they got to guess who had designed their blanket.  It was really fun to see what they picked out for each other.

OK, so we hadn't seen this one when we talked to you. What a fun Christmas! What a lot of work. You are all great and so are the blankets.
